About Ian

Hi, I'm Ian Barrow, a Counsellor, Strategic Psychotherapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Management Consultant.

Throughout my life, both personally and professionally, I've come to appreciate just how complex being human can be.

We all carry experiences that shape how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, the decisions we make and the way we respond to the world around us.

Sometimes those experiences help us grow. At other times, they leave us questioning ourselves, struggling with our emotions or simply trying to find our way through circumstances we never expected to face.

And I believe this is just as true in our professional lives as it is in our personal ones.

My Journey

My journey has taken me around the world, including time playing professional sport in the United Kingdom, working across different cultures and environments, and building a career in senior management and executive leadership.

Before transitioning into psychological therapy, I spent much of my professional career in management, progressing to C-suite level. Those years gave me a firsthand understanding of the commercial realities of organisations, the responsibilities of leadership and the pressures that come with managing people, expectations and performance.

But they also taught me something equally important.

Behind every job title, every leadership decision and every organisational challenge, there are people. People whose lives, experiences, emotions and sense of self don't simply disappear when they walk through the workplace door.

My transition into mental health was something I had wanted to pursue for more than 20 years. It wasn't simply a change in career, but an opportunity to pursue something that had held personal meaning for much of my life.

Today, I feel fortunate to bring those different experiences together through Mind Healing Matters.

Alongside my private practice, I also provide therapeutic and coaching services internationally through a global mental health provider.

My Approach

I believe that understanding people requires us to look beyond what we see on the surface.

Our emotions, behaviours, relationships and decisions are influenced by our experiences, the environments we find ourselves in and the meaning we attach to what happens in our lives. And while our personal and professional lives may appear separate, the emotional impact of one often finds its way into the other. We don't stop being human when we go to work, and the experiences we have at work don't stop affecting us when we go home.

In my therapeutic practice, I support individuals navigating life's emotional challenges, whether that's anxiety, relationships, difficult experiences, personal change or the feeling that somewhere along the way they've lost touch with themselves.

In my organisational consulting work, I draw on my executive experience and psychological understanding to work with leaders and organisations on psychological safety, psychosocial risk, workplace wellbeing, leadership effectiveness and organisational performance.

Although these areas of practice may appear different, I believe they share something fundamental: our emotional wellbeing influences how we experience life, how we connect with others and how effectively we function, both personally and professionally.

I don't believe we can always understand someone's behaviour, struggles or decisions without first trying to understand their experiences and the circumstances surrounding them. And I don't believe meaningful change comes simply from telling people what they should do differently.

It begins with understanding why things are the way they are, recognising the human experience behind them, and creating the conditions in which people can move forward. Whether I'm sitting with someone navigating a difficult period in their life or working with an executive team facing organisational challenges, that belief remains the same.

Because ultimately, behind everything we do, we are human.

And that matters.

Our Values

Understanding people. Respecting individuality. Creating the conditions for meaningful change.
